Mixtapes and other things

Hi 🤣

It’s been a while. I had a stroke. We all had a rough few years. Things aren’t necessarily better.

I started working on Bottle Imp again back in 2021 and got defeated by life again.

So, here in 2025, I want to start again.

Bottle Imp has never been a specific thing. I used to do show promotion around Detroit, then, by extension of that, I started acting a bit like a record label. My goal is always to focus on helping musicians, particularly in our deep niches.

These days I want to focus a little more on fun software tools.

So I modified the Bottle Imp site and added Mixtapes.

I did some research.

We all agree Spotify massively underpays artists.

We all use Spotify or some similar streaming service.

But we also use Bandcamp to support artists.

What Mixtapes does is catalog a playlist, and then find Bandcamp links for each song. The idea is to create a triangle of support, in the end. Everyone helps each other!

The image is a flowchart illustrating relationships between fans, playlist curators, and artists in a music-related ecosystem. At the top, a box labeled "Fans" connects to two other groups: "Playlist Curators" and "Artists."
- Arrows from "Fans" to "Playlist Curators" indicate that fans can tip playlist curators.
- Arrows from "Fans" to "Artists" indicate that fans can support artists directly.
- Arrows from "Playlist Curators" to "Artists" indicate that curators support artists by including them on playlists.
- Arrows from "Artists" to "Playlist Curators" indicate that artists can help promote playlists.
The background is dark, with a simple and structured layout featuring boxes and arrows to display interactions between the groups.

See an example.

Right now, it only does Spotify.  I’d like to expand this to include other streaming platforms and deemphasize Spotify. But this is the start.

I’d also like to add support for Ampwall vs just Bandcamp.

But before I go any further:

Is this something you’re interested in?
Would you like to share playlists this way?
What other features would you like to see?

This is all very prototype-y and buggy, but I want to see if anyone is interested before I go further.

I’m exploring a few more ideas, too. If anyone wants to help, the easiest way is to move the conversation to BlueSky.
